SLJ: The Big Deep – Step it Up

For this SLJ activity, I was challenged to create a board game inspired by the different layers of the deep sea using Google Drawings.

Before I started, I looked at some websites for information and took inspiration from the example given. Then, I started creating the background of my game. Once I got my backdrop done, I decided on what shape it would be and I chose to do a worm looking shape. Then, I made up some rules and started on my board game. I wrote things on some boxes and added some sea creatures (flounder and the shark). Lastly, I added images of deep sea creature and as a final touch, I drew a simple boat on the top as well as the title of my game.

I enjoyed this activity because I got to make my own board game based on the knowledge I learnt about the deep sea.

SLJ: The Big Deep – Kick Start

For this Summer Learning Journey activity, I was challenged to make a ugly, deep sea creature. But before I started, I went onto the links provided on the activity to get inspiration and ideas. As well as going on the internet for ideas. Then, I started making my creature. First, I decided that it will be an anglerfish but with other sea creature’s physical features. Such as, the arms of an Octopus, the nose of a long nose sawshark, and patterns. Then, as a final touch, I added a flashlight.

My deep sea creature is called fumples. They deal with the darkness in the deep with their little light hanging from their head. They prefer being alone, so it isn’t much of a problem since there isn’t many sea creatures in the deep sea.

I found this activity interesting because I got to make my own deep sea creature, as well as how they can survive with the loneliness, and darkness.

SLJ: Waka – Kick Start

For this SLJ activity, I was challenged to design my own waka, and label parts of my Waka. But before I start designing, I have to know what parts are what, and a few things about wakas. Thankfully, there were videos linked to the activity, so I watched those. Then, I went onto Google to take inspiration. I found a few I liked and based my Waka on them. I make sure to label the parts, and added a background to make it POP!

I found this activity interesting because instead of just designing my own Waka, I learnt a few things on a way, thanks to the videos.

SLJ: Te Ruapekapeka – Kick Start

For this SLJ activity I was challenged to make a poster based on what I learnt from the links provided about the Pekapeka. I chose to include what I found the most interesting fact. I chose to do why its special, where it lives, why it’s close to extinction, and facts. I made sure to add a map of where it can be found.

I enjoyed this activity because I got to learn about the Pekapeka bat and I now know interesting facts about them.

SLJ: Zentangle Art – Step it up

For this SLJ activity I was challenged to make zentangle art using a sea creature. I chose to do a turtle. First, I sectioned the turtle into bits for me to draw Zentangle designs in. I took inspiration from the internet to add designs onto my turtle. I chose ones that stood out to me and ones that I was able to do. Then, I used the blending stump to shade the other bits of my turtle, like the head, arms, and legs. Lastly I signed it to show that I made it. Something I found difficult in this activity was finding Zentangle designs that I was able to draw. But I overcame that problem by searching up simple zentangle designs.

I enjoyed this activity since I was able to make my own sea turtle zentangle art.

SLJ: Zentangle Art – Kick Start

For this SLJ acitivty I was challenged to make zentangle art. I had to draw from 3 options, a scallop, a breach, or an ammon. I chose to draw a scallop since to me, it stood out compared to the other seashells. I made a blending stump using the link provided, a pencil, and paper. I followed the video on how to make my scallop and started shading. My favourite part was adding the curves onto the shell. Lastly, I signed it to show that I made it and now my scallop is complete.

I enjoyed this activity because I got learn how to make a blending stump, and it is quite useful when you know how to use it.

SLJ: Fold & Frame – Kick Start

For this Summer Learning Journey activity, I was challenged to make origami animals. I had to at least make 3 origami creatures. So from the link that was given, I chose to make an origami swan, rabbit, and frog. I chose to do each of them different sizes. The biggest being the swan, then the rabbit, and finally the small frog. What I found difficult and challenging was folding the small frog and the neck of the swan. It took me some time to make the frog since it was so small. My favourite one has to be the rabbit because the open ears just make it stand out compared to the rest of the origami I made.

I enjoyed this activity because now I know how to make 3 different origami animals. I also was able to understand the simple instructions that were on the link.
