For this activity, I had to research about a New Zealander that has shown excellence or creativity in their life. As you can see, I chose Ernest Rutherford. Ernest Rutherford is a brilliant phyicist that found a groundbreaking discovery. He found out that atoms aren’t just a solid ball, as people thought before.
I loved doing this activity because I learned plenty of information about Ernest Rutherford.
LI: To use metaphors and senses to describe the noun by painting a picture with your words.
We were given a challenge, to write a poem based on an abstract noun. We chose Fury as our word. We had to describe what fury would look, smell, feel, see, and taste like. We also used word hippo to detail the vocabulary of our poem, making it sound more advanced.
What I liked about this activity was that we had to discuss as a group what the 5 senses would be like as fury.
LI: To write a poem that describes a moment in time.
This week we wrote moment in time poems. We first got into groups of 4 or 5. We wrote a poem using some of our senses. Also known as Olfactory (smell), Gustatory (taste), Visual (see) tactile (touch) and auditory (hear).
This activity was really fun because we had to find some way to connect the present with the past.

This week we wrote moment in time poems. We first watched a video of a man getting attacked by a polar bear. But thankfully he was in his protective cage and no harm was caused. We wrote a poem using the 5 senses, and wrote about how we would feel or what we would see, if we were the man in the video.
This activity was interesting because we used interesting vocabulary using wordhippo.
Sound Focus: ou as in short u.
Long vowels say the letter name and the short vowel say the letter sound.
Our Sound Focus for this week is ou. To be able to pronounce ou, you will need to say short u, as in the letter sound. Some of the words we went over were touch, courage etc…
This activity was very enjoyable because there were words that could’ve had different spellings like tough as tuff or touch as in tuch.
We’ve been learning about The Code. We’ve learnt, how ei as in long a or long e. Me and Bethany made a DLO about what we know about Sound Focus as ei in long a. Skein, Beige, Veil, Vein and Rein, all have ei in them and are long vowels. Long vowels are saying the letter name. And short vowels are saying the letter sound.
It was very fun because it’s really interesting to see that ei can make long a sounds or even long e sounds. I’m mind-blown!
L.I: To read the text, gather, sort, graph and analyse the data.
We learned how to analyse and gather data. We gathered our data by going around the class and asking everyone in LS2 their age. Once we had our data, we made a bar graph on sheets. We then made a DLO about explaining how we found our data. I enjoyed this activity because we had interact socially, and its only been a few weeks in school.
LI: To understand the Treaty of Waitangi
In this slide, we combined the CARE values with the Treaty of Waitangi. We connected the Care values with the Treaty of Waitangi. We wrote how the Treaty of Waitangi or the people included showed the Care Values. What I loved about this activity was that we were able to see how our values connected with the Treaty of Waitangi.
This week we have been learning about the vowels and the “ei” sounds. Ei can make long /a/ sound and long /e/ sounds. Long vowels are saying the letter name, and the short vowel is saying the letter sound. We made a DLO of Nonsense Paragraphs, The words we used in our paragraph to make a nonsense sentence is Veil, Skein, Eight, Foreign, Reindeer, Leisure, Receipt, Receive, Beige, Reign, Abseil, Vein, Perceive, Ceiling and Receive.
I enjoyed this task because I liked how we challenged our partners to see who wrote it faster.
LI: To use smart searching skills to research correct information.
Chinese Lantern Festival is an important holiday in the Chinese community. Me and my group chose different questions depending on our ability and drew images to match the page. We added decor and were finished. Did you know that the colour yellow represents good luck and the colour red, represents wealth and success? What I like about the activity is that I learned a lot. Because I didn’t know anything in the beginning.
